ASEAN has focused on language learning as instrumental in building community; is focusing on language learning a precursor for community building? Learning a second language is a transforming experience that should be examined from the point of view of the learner. In which ways and to what extent is the transformation, and in what areas? How much learning is done in the classroom and how much outside the classroom? How important is an expert or a coach? What about the organization, what role does it play in second language acquisition? Can English language development lead to Community Building within Organizations?
